The STRIVE Lab Fellowship integrates formal coursework, experiential learning, and longitudinal mentorship to prepare future leaders in surgical simulation and medical education. Fellows develop the skills needed to design, implement, and evaluate simulation-based educational programs within clinical environments.

Fellows complete structured training through the Health Professions Education Certificate (HPEC) program, gaining grounding in learning theory, curriculum design, assessment, program evaluation, and educational scholarship. This academic framework is applied directly to active simulation initiatives, ensuring consistent alignment between theory and practice.
The fellowship follows an apprenticeship-based model in which fellows progressively assume greater responsibility under guided supervision.Early phases emphasize observation, co-facilitation, and assisted curriculum development. As fellows advance, they transition toward independent leadership of simulation sessions, curriculum modules, and educational research initiatives.Regular feedback from an interdisciplinary mentorship team supports reflective practice, skill refinement, and professional identity formation as clinician-educators.
Through this integrated educational structure, STRIVE Lab fellows develop core competencies in:
• Instructional and curriculum design
• Simulation facilitation and operations
• Learner assessment and feedback
• Educational leadership
• Scholarship in simulation and medical education
The fellowship prepares participants for academic and leadership roles in surgery, simulation, and health professions education.
